Happy New Year everyone.
Although December seems ages ago now, it was lovely to see people at the Victorian Mince Pie and Christmas Tree morning. Andy and the tree-bearers did a wonderful job, and we had a taste of authentic Victorian mince pies thanks to Richard. Thank you to all the helpers and to everyone who came.
Last week, we signed the contract for roof repairs with Ackroyd Construction of Nottingham. We went through a full tender process in the late autumn, and we are very pleased to be working with the Ackroyd’s team under our church architect Mark Stewart. We are just waiting for the final green light from the diocese, and we hope to begin work in early February. Once started, it should take about 16 weeks to complete the restoration of the nave roof.
We have also been working on heritage materials for visitors to St Mary’s. We are in the process of producing short, printed guides for the church and more detailed information for a website.
Our next tasks are to create children’s activities – guided by young people themselves. We are working on ideas for a website and starting to put together some village events and workshops.
Date for your diary:
26 April 2025, 7.30pm – an evening of Victorian Music and Song, led by Alison Matthews-Savage.
‘Preserving A.W. Pugin’s Church: St Mary’s, Wymeswold Roof Repairs and Community Heritage Stories’ is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we have been able to repair our church roof and work with volunteers to tell Wymeswold stories.
