Shelton spins it for Wymeswold
Young spinner Jack Shelton took a career-best 6 for 6 to steer Wymeswold to an emphatic nine-wicket win at Farndon in Division D of the South Notts Cricket League.
Skipper Rob Pitman won the toss and chose to bowl first on a drying wicket, which proved to be the correct call as Shelton’s 6 wickets in 5.4 overs was supported by Toby Smith with 3 for 14 as the home side were skittled out for just 67.
In reply, Luke Scoble was unbeaten on 42 as Wymeswold cruised to victory in just 16 overs for the loss of one wicket. The result moves the Wold to fourth in the SNCL Division D table, still with an outside chance of promotion if they were to win both of their final two games.
Meanwhile in Division L of the league Wymeswold’s second team lost by 75 runs at home to Midlands CC.
The visitors batted first and reached 140 for 8 in 36 overs, with Sam Whowell being the pick of the bowlers claiming 3 for 41.
In reply Wymeswold’s batsmen crashed to 65 all-out, with only veteran Pete Shaw making a significant contribution with 43.
