A Brief History of the Wymeswold Church Fund Appeal
(WCFA)

In 1990 the vicar of St. Mary’s faced a dilemma. The church building needed some major repairs, primarily to the roof. One solution seemed to be to sell a 16th century silver chalice which had been valued at £250,000. To prevent the loss of such a rare example of pre-reformation workmanship the village were tasked by the diocese with raising £20,000. This was in 1991.

So was formed the WCFA. Numerous events and fund raising activities were put in place and the target achieved. However, it was recognised that maintenance and repairs would be needed for years to come so the WCFA and fundraising have continued ever since.

The Committee arrange a series of events as part of the organised fundraising each year .These include suppers, dinners, raffles, tombolas and quizzes and we thank the community and local businesses for their support in these activities. We also work in partnership with the Parochial Church Council  to put on joint events.

Look out for posters and items on Wymeswold.com which advertise forthcoming fundraising events.
